| Though I did many plein aire scenes on the small cadmium tinted square while on an artist's trip in Umbria, this scene called for a larger work, once home. I am fascinated first by drawing the buildings with a plum Nupastel on my cadmium tinted, sanded German etching paper. After checking my vertical and horizontal lineups, I brush alcohol on the large plum shapes to set up a pleasing pattern. Next, I add colors, using a combination of first Nupastels and then a variety of softer pastels for accents and drama. |
