Douglas County Art Encounters

Artists or artist teams 18 years of age or older may submit up to three entries of existing, completed work for the next Art Encounters, May 2017 - May 2018 in Douglas County, Colorado. All work must be original in concept and not the product of instructional guidance. Any sculpture that is a replica or duplicate must include the edition, the serial number, and the other locations where this piece is available. Duplicate sculptures within a 60-mile radius of Douglas County will not be accepted. Any variety of materials may be incorporated, but the project, in its entirety, must require minimal or no maintenance and be able to sustain extreme weather elements and fluctuations common in Colorado, as this is an outdoor public art program. Art may involve public interaction of all ages. All entries must be accompanied by a description of the installation process. Pedestals, ground mounts and ready mix will be supplied for each selected entry based on the requirements submitted in their entry. All work must be for sale. Selected artists will receive an $800 stipend, payable after completion of the installation and will be eligible to win $1,000 through the People's Choice Award based on public votes. A judge reviews each of the pieces and selects a winner for the Artistic Merit Award, which will also receive $1,000. No entry fee. Deadline: February 11, 2017. More info. Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA seeks art that explores values of one color for an upcoming exhibition, June 1-30, 2017. The term monochrome describes paintings, drawings, design, or photographs in one color or values of one color. Las Laguna Gallery challenges artists to explore not only the range of tones of black and white, but also explore the range of a single color. Monochrome is usually taken to mean the same as black and white or, more likely, grayscale, but may also be used to refer to other combinations containing only tones of a single color, such as green-and-white or green-and-black. It may also refer to sepia displaying tones from light tan to dark brown or cyanotype ("blueprint") images, and early photographic methods such as daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes. All artists and multiple art mediums will be considered. No work that requires special installation or instructions will be accepted. Also, no jewelry or sculpture. $35 entry fee.
