I have always been fascinated by the structure of things - the way the pieces fit together and the dynamics they create. The junctures of planes and the intersections of lines are crucial elements of my work. Moreover, I am moved to express my ideas of specific relationships in space and perception.

I grew up in the Chicago suburbs. At the University of Georgia, where I received my degree in fine art in 1975, I majored in printmaking. Ten years of drawing after graduation allowed me to refine my draftsmanship and compositional skills. I began watercolor painting in 1985. Later, I started working in oil pastel and paper collage. In the last few years, I have come back to drawing. I have studied in Italy with the University of Georgia Studies Abroad Program, and worked with nationally known artists at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. My studio is located at TULA on Bennett Street in Atlanta.

My work is not specifically representational; it is evocative rather than concrete. The subject exists in its own time and place; in fact, it often creates the nature of its space. I explore the subtleties of value and the deconstruction of the picture plane. Whether setting up dramatic compositions or capturing images in energetic line, I convey emotions and insights in my own visual language.
