Block Printing 1: Beginning Printmaking
September 9-30, 2010 (Thursdays, 1-4pm or 6-8:30pm) — Great for creating original gift cards, postcards, fine art prints, or to embellish a cloth, block printing is one of the oldest and most versatile forms of printmaking. The image is created by carving into a surface to create raised areas on which to deposit ink. Prints can be made both on paper or cloth. You will create two original linoleum block carvings during the class that can be printed an unlimited number of times. Both printing by hand and the use of a small table press will be explored. Time Travelers, For Children in Grades 3-5
September 10 - October 15, 2010 (Fridays, 4-5:30pm) — Materials included. Students will experience art making through the history of Western art. With both 2-D and 3-D media, as well as games, they will learn about the cultures of the ancients. We will start with Paleolithic Cave paintings and end in the Modern era. Media include drawing, painting, clay, collage, mosaics, reposse and relief printmaking. Art history slides will be shown every class. Parents are invited to attend. We will make clay figures like the Mesopotamians, an Egyptian Sphinx, Greek masks, Roman mosaics and recreate stained glass windows from the Middle Ages. December 8 - January 26 - no class Dec. 22, 29 (Wednesdays, 6-8:30pm) — Calligraphy 3 is an advanced calligraphy class designed for those who have taken Calligraphy 2 & 3 or who already know the fundamentals of any calligraphic hand and are ready for the challenge of applying the words and other elements to the page. Whether you are addressing envelopes, designing a monogram, laying out a certificate, document or quote of any size, this class will help you understand the concept of hierarchy on a page, drama, stable compositions and balance of elements. You will also be encouraged to take the plunge into the world of flourishing! Experimentation with color, gouache, inks and paper is also encouraged. Bring in your free spirits and let's have fun!
