The Magic of Crystalline Glazes Tuscany Style
September 11-18, 2010 — Come join us in the hills of beautiful Tuscany at the ceramic school "La Meridiana". Explore handbuilt or wheel-thrown ceramic forms using a porcelain clay body while learning to create a surface receptive to Crystal Glazes. Crystalline glazes have a magical quality. The slightest movement causes light to dance across the surface, revealing layered depths of color and texture in a constantly changing rhythm. The challenge and fascination of this glazing technique is to recreate the process of crystalization that in nature can take thousands of years. Our instructor will also invite us to create unique ceramic jewelry applying this special glaze technique. Students will share housing in the beautiful setting of a traditional Italian villa "Il Testimonio". Visit website

The Artist's Book, Vessel for Word and Image
July 23-30, 2011 (sessions daily) — The artist's book combines words and images in a structure that reinforces the ideas it contains. Inspired by our experiences in Italy, we will make books that can be a repository for our week together in Cortona. We will begin by talking about travel journals, documenting your experiences on this trip. Some simple binding structures and page design considerations will lead us to work on an artist's book. Your images may include drawing, painting or collage techniques. We will then integrate our imagery with handwritten text, and design a book structure that further develops the ideas. Watercolor Workshop with Mel Stabin
September 21 - October 2, 2011 — Our hotel on Ischia Island is just a couple of blocks from the warm sea and has a wonderful restaurant as well as a built in hot springs pool. You'll enjoy all the lovely components of architecture, flora and fauna that you'll want to paint without the hordes of tourists. After several days there, we will take a ferry to the Amalfi coast and a private bus to Ravello. In my opinion, it's the best location for painters. There could be a concert or two that you might want to attend. On the way back to Naples, we will stop in Pompeii to see those sites. Included: Tuition, room (dbl. occ. And singles are available) all breakfasts, 6 dinners, transportation within Italy, tips and taxes. Visit website

Painting Tuscan Light from Within
September 8-15, 2012 — Join us in Italy with the author of The Tao of Watercolor! Drawing from her heritage, her frequent visits to a beloved Italy and a long career pushing the boundaries of creative watercolor, Jeanne has developed a course which brings together the techniques for capturing Tuscan light in watercolor with the thematic power of one's personal expression of that light. Tuscan light will be married to the light within as painters at every level, move in a new way through the craft of picture making in landscape, still life, and figure. Jeanne will demonstrate a different aspect of the craft each day, as well as provide ample amounts of individual consultation. All levels are welcome! Visit website
