Historic Southport, North Carolina
March 15-19, 2010 — This delightful little town lies halfway between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, right along the Cape Fear Coast. Tony spent weeks exploring and painting there, before first offering this workshop last year. Southport is so photogenic that a number of film and TV productions have chosen it for their location shots. You'll enjoy seeing streets, skirting around sprawling live oaks; the sun and shadow play flickering on stately Victorian homes; the intimate old yacht basin with a shrimp boat or two and lots of pleasure craft, fishing docks and seafood eateries. Then there are nearby fishing villages, the Orton Plantation with its stately gardens, tidal marshes and the intra coastal waterway with the unique Oak Island light in the distance.  Website: http://www.tonyvanhasselt.com

"What If" Watermedia Workshop with Mary Alice Braukman
April 11-16, 2010 — Mary Alice's workshops are an adventure in risk-taking and pushing the medium as far as it will go. One goal is to explore new ideas in mixed water media and collage, and to show visual growth in your art through self expression. Whether working abstractly or representational each painter will be encouraged to find his or her unique, personal direction. We will explore layering of experimental mediums, photo transfers, and collage in depth, striving for results that go beyond obvious techniques and leave people wondering how you created such a gem. Everyone will benefit from the sharing of ideas and critiques. A painter's work is their journal.  Website: http://www.braukmanart.com/

Watercolor Energies and Composition
May 24-28, 2010 — Frank Webb is one of the nation's premier watercolor teachers and brings enthusiasm and energy to his classes, making painting an exhilarating enterprise. "My work proceeds from on-the-spot graphite drawings made from a lifetime of travels. Each drawing is edited, fused with design principles, and used as the model. With large flat brushes and plenty of water I approach the paper in a slam-bang initial wash, and end with the caress of a butterfly wing."  Website: http://www.artshow.com/webb

Watercolor in the Blue Ridge
August 2-6, 2010 — Come join Tony in Boone, North Carolina, an ideal location in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We'll gather each morning at the studio, right next door to the largest art supply outlet store you can imagine. Joe has shared his own favorite painting locations in the area, where Tony starts with a morning demonstration and you can paint and enjoy all day. An afternoon critique back at the studio enables you to actually see just how to finish your efforts. As on all workshops, suggested improvements are painted on a sheet of acetate, placed on top of your work. The actual painting is never touched.  Website: http://www.tonyvanhasselt.com
