"Felicia Forte Paints Alla Prima Still Life and Portrait"
April 27-29, 2018

Alla Prima painting, or wet into wet, single session painting is a stimulating method which teaches you to be present in every brush stroke, focusing only on the essentials—ultimately giving you great dexterity and control. With demonstration and gentle critique, Felicia will challenge you to correctly observe and record the fundamentals: shapes, values, edges and color. In this workshop Felicia will combine portraiture, the subject that she was first interested in and with which she gained her skill with her current interests in still life, interiors and abstraction. Felicia is an inspired and creative teacher—with 9 years of teaching experience, she interacts with each student according to their experience and strengths. All levels welcome.

"Painting Portrait Sketches with Dominique Medici"
June 8-10, 2018

Gaining the ability to work quickly, and with precision, is key in your development as a painter. The most efficient way to develop your observation and intuition is to practice with shorter poses. The time restraint forces you to forego detail, see the big picture, and focus on gesture and large masses. This is the secret behind all great works. In this class, we will work with a systematic and disciplined technique that is uniquely designed to achieve this aim. I will provide frequent demos, breaking down the process of painting into clear and consecutive steps, as well as critique and instruction each session. Since simplicity is one of our goals, we will be using a limited palette.

"Figure in the Environment"
August 2-5, 2018

We will learn how to bring together work from life, from studies, and from photos to create convincing paintings of a figure in an environment. We will first work in the field to create an oil study from life of an external environment. We will then move inside and work with the model from life. Using our oil sketch and photos for our environment reference, we will place the figure in a believable space. A unified palette will bring cohesion to the picture. I will demo both in the field and from the model, as well as help everyone hands-on to bring expression and control to their figurative work.

"Egg Tempera and the Early Renaissance Method of Developing Fleshtones"
August 20-24, 2018

This course will teach the technique of painting flesh tones in egg tempera painting as it was practiced in 14th and 15th Century Italy. This painting technique requires discipline but pays great dividends to those who learn to master it. The paint is actually applied in cross-hatch strokes. The brilliant and jewel-like surface is often described as luminescent. The paints are made by mixing powdered pigments with the yolk of an egg. This color mixture is applied over a detailed under-drawing thus allowing the artist to separate the painting process into distinct tasks. The artist first composes, draws and establishes the values of the painting in black and white. The painter can now give his or her full attention to issues of color.
