Art Workshops, Classes & Retreats

"Creating Still Life with Movement and Texture"
March 24-25, 2018

In this two-day workshop, students will start with an under-painting using a subtractive method to get the darks and lights along with a solid composition set. For this, we will use a fast dry oil paint. Next, we will learn how to block in while keeping in mind areas that we will draw out more detail and where we will want to have larger more expressive marks for a more abstracted feel. During the workshop, the artist will demonstrate painting techniques, panel prep with oil paint ground, photographing reference material and application of gold leafing. The students will have ample time to paint while the instructor gives individualized instruction.

We’ll explore the secrets to creating the rich, expressive color – celebrated from the Impressionist through Contemporary painters – through the practical application of techniques that I’ve developed over nearly 30 years of teaching.
