"Shibori: A Change of Surface: Working on Paper, Leather, Industrial Felt"
June 25-29, 2018

Change the substrate and all assumptions are off. Come join us to explore working with these different materials using shibori, painting, and block printing. Indigo, thickened indigo paste, indigo discharge, kakishibu, and mordant printing offer a wide range of possibilities. We will compare with more traditional fabrics, processes, and dyes. We will create samples and accessories, art paper for portfolios or books. Ana Lisa will bring Japanese samples of Indigo shibori and her own examples of non-traditional fabrics.

"Printmaking Without a Press"
September 14-18, 2018

In this workshop students learn how to make high quality original prints without a press, and with easy soap and water cleanup. Using Golden Open acrylic paints and other water-based media, several methods of printmaking without a press will be presented with clear step-by-step demonstrations. Students can also combine these methods for unlimited potential, using lighter weight papers for collage and other paper arts, or heavier printmaking paper for finished art prints. Lightweight fabrics can also be used. Playful experimentation and fun are encouraged in this workshop! Demonstrations and individual discussions will help each student to create work using their own aesthetic ideas.
