Wet & Wild! Painting Vibrant Water Scenes
November 30 - December 4, 2009 (9 AM - 4 PM) — Learn how to make water look wet, reflective and splashy! Choosing oil, watercolor or acrylic as your primary medium, study water in its various forms: from a cascading waterfall to a babbling brook to glassy reflection. Painting water that looks wet requires some basic knowledge of the dynamics of how water moves and how objects are reflected in its shiny surface. Techniques will be demonstrated to address the various puzzles the artist is faced with when painting this stunning, fascinating - and yes, confusing - subject! Julie will provide photos for class use or you are welcome to use your own reference material. There will be demos in all three mediums, critique and lots of painting time.  Website: http://reg129.imperisoft.com/SAS/ProgramDetail/33373334/Registration.aspx

Portrait and Figure Painting

Breaking New Ground with Watercolor
January 11 - February 15, 2010 (Mondays, 6:30-9:30 PM) — We'll explore two exciting, non-traditional watercolor techniques: 1. Watercolor on colored paper (2 weeks): Working with your own watercolor pigments, sometimes blending them with opaque white for light values atop mid-value papers, you'll learn a refreshing new approach to watercolor, while gaining new insights into ways of unifying a composition, and developing new approaches to form, value, and color. 2. Oriental Watercolor Techniques (4 weeks): Break loose from the planning and control which characterize traditional watercolor! You'll revel in form and color with much less regard to literal, preconceived imagery. I promise you an emotional, rather than intellectual approach to the medium, while still offering representational fulfillment to the degree you desire. Materials particular to these techniques will be furnished.  Website: http://reg129.imperisoft.com/SAS/ProgramDetail/33383436/Registration.aspx

The Joy of Travel Journaling
March 1- April 5, 2010 (Mondays, 9 AM-12 PM) — Ever wonder why we rarely look at our travel photos? Perhaps it's because taking a photo requires so little investment of one's attention that actual memories of the moment are scant. Not so with even a brief sketch in your journal. While I still take loads of pictures, it's invariably my journals that, even 32 years later, vividly evoke wonderful places and events of our travels! Sketching on location slows your pace, as you observe a scene for minutes, not just seconds. You'll be amazed at how quickly your drawing improves. Prepare to visit several of the Valley's most interesting locales and gain a new perspective on sketching, journaling, travel, and even watercolor itself. Beginners are especially welcome.  Website: http://reg129.imperisoft.com/SAS/ProgramDetail/33383536/Registration.aspx

Extra-ordinary, Dramatic Still Life
May 17-21, 2010 (9 AM - 4 PM) — Some of the most dynamic, dramatic still life pictures happen when you try looking at things from a different point of view. For instance, try an unusual lighting situation or look at a still life from an unusual viewing angle … or pick unusual objects as subject matter. This workshop will center on how to think creatively about still life. From opulent Baroque influenced settings to brightly colored, glittering objects, there will be a variety of still life choices for you to work from. You may choose one set up or try all of them! This workshop is open to both oil and watercolor painters. Please note: this workshop requires good drawing ability and previous painting experience for best results.  Website: http://reg129.imperisoft.com/SAS/ProgramDetail/33383233/Registration.aspx
