Artists are invited to submit works to be considered for inclusion in an art show to be held in conjunction with Frederick Finn Fest (Frederick, SD), June 15-17, 2012. The theme "Our Home in the Natural World" is intended to draw attention to the Finnish ethnic and cultural appreciation of nature in all seasons: embracing crisp white winter snows, the changing of the seasons and beautiful summers of growth and light. Works of art that celebrate and draw attention to the beauty of the natural world that surrounds us are sought for inclusion. A special invitation is extended to school alumni of the local area. The First Book Prize in Photography is a biennial prize offering $3,000 in grant money, a solo exhibit at the Center for Documentary Studies in Durham, North Carolina, and most importantly, the publication of a book of photography, published by Duke University Press in association with CDS Books. Open to American and Canadian citizens (and residents of the U.S. and Canada for at least 15 years) of any age, who have yet to publish a book-length work - a publication that focuses solely on the photographer's work, contains more than thirty of the photographer's images, and is sold through conventional book distribution channels. (A photographer's inclusion in an anthology or group catalog does not affect eligibility.) Photographers who have self-published or printed on-demand books of more than sixty pages that are promoted and sold on the Internet as books, or have published limited-edition chapbooks or exhibit catalogs of more than sixty pages, are not eligible. $65 entry fee.
