"Mosaics"

Welcome to the world of mosaics! From the ancient Romans to Gaudi, mosaics have been used to enhance indoor and outdoor spaces. This class will provide the opportunity to explore stone, tile, glass and ceramic mosaics using various methods. Learn about different mosaic surfaces, adhesives, and materials. Make beautiful and useful objects and decor. Tile, stained glass pieces, and broken ceramics will be provided, along with adhesives and grout. Students should bring wheeled glass tile nippers, or they can be purchased at class for $25. Please do not wear open toe shoes. Safety glasses will be provided.

"Still Life with Water Mixable Oils"
November 8, 2025
 

Wondering what Water Mixable Oil paints are all about? During this one-day intensive workshop, Beth shares her unique technique with students. In the morning Beth will do a demo and show how she uses photography and simple apps on her phone to simplify forms enhance value and emphasize composition. She will also discuss how to pick objects that make an exciting still life set up. Beth will have paint for her students to try as well as one of her prepared painting panels, brushes and other supplies. This workshop is for all level of painters - from beginners to returnees. If you have taken a workshop from Beth before, consider taking this one as we work from an actual still life setup (fruit).

"Handmade Papermaking: Sheetforming"
November 8-9, 2025
 

Learn the traditional methods and materials of hand-papermaking in PAFA’s state-of-the-art Richard C. von Hess Papermaking Studio! This workshop will focus on sheet production. Instruction will familiarize students with the rules and practices of the studio, introduce new students to the basics of handmade papermaking, and challenge those with papermaking experience to try new techniques or fibers. Students will have supervised time to practice techniques in pulling paper with the mould and deckle, pressing using a hydraulic press, and drying with a restrained dried system. Students of all disciplines and levels are encouraged to bring their ideas to this tactile medium. Tuition includes a $50 lab fee which covers all supplies. "Cozy Coffee Cookie Decorating"
November 8 | 10am - 12pm
 

Learn the basics of cookie decorating and how to decorate sugar cookies with Royal Icing. Basic techniques include flooding, piping, transfers and wet on wet, etc. Decorating utensils will be provided for use in class and all materials are included. No prior experience needed! Each attendee will leave with the knowledge and confidence to decorate a set of 6 different designs. You will take home your tasty creations to show and savor with your loved ones. "Acrylic Pouring, Landscapes & More: Choose Your Color"

We will be experimenting with many techniques including ones to achieve incredible landscapes and oceanscapes. Acrylic pouring is a vibrant art technique where liquid acrylic paints, thinned with a special medium, are poured onto a canvas, creating mesmerizing, fluid patterns and abstract designs that resemble swirling marble, with colors blending and merging in unexpected ways, resulting in a visually captivating, glossy finish that's both spontaneous and visually striking, often described as "liquid art" due to the unpredictable movement of the paint as it flows across the surface. "Gingerbread House Decorating Workshop (Ages: 4+)"

Each parent-child team will receive their own cookie cottage, pre-assembled and ready to decorate! "Oaxaca Art + Culture Retreat: Paint, Stitch, Collage"

Paint & Printmaking: explore intuitive mark-making and mono-printing using gel plates and acrylic paints. Create layers of vibrant papers for collages, books, or mixed media works. "Made with Paper: Oaxaca Art + Culture Workshop: mask making with clay paper + mixed media collage"

Paper arts workshop focuses on mask making with "barro papel" (clay paper) and mixed media/collage incorporating paper ephemera. Handcraft a barro papel mask – a blend of paper pulp, clay, glue. Then, visual storytelling with mixed media collage, plus mark making experimentation to develop your unique visual voice when playing with handmade brushes and India ink. Create a simple artist book using exquisite handmade paper crafted by a master Oaxacan papermaker. "Indigo Shibori Retreat"

Join textile artist Davana Robedee in South West France for a week of experimentation with shibori techniques to create patterns on cloth. For thousands of years and all across the world, people have been fascinated by the magic of indigo dye. In this five-day retreat, students will learn how to create graduations of blue from light to dark, and do a deep dive into shibori exploration. We will start with folded and clamped resist using Itajime shibori and then learn several stitch resist shibori techniques. Davana will introduce techniques with step-by-step demonstrations, but will also discuss methods of creating depth, perspective, and imagery to develop one of a kind artworks. Each student will leave with beautifully dyed fabrics, scarves, or wearables.

All these materials and experiences will influence our work and find their way into our mixed media art journaling – which we’ll do in a handmade concertina journal, on paper, and on wood panels! "Vivacious Vessels: Fiber Wrapped Coil Baskets"

Join textile artist and instructor Vicki Assegued in South West France for a week of playful experimentation. In this workshop, you’ll begin by wrapping a fiber core of your choosing with beautiful fabrics, yarns and strings, and then coiling it into any shape that you choose. You’ll learn to create and add all kinds of decorative elements, such as fringe, tassels and pom poms. We’ll also make other fun fiber parts to add to our baskets. You can attach additional embellishments, such as beads, jewelry parts, buttons, etc. Your basket will be unique to you. No experience is necessary. A lovely selection of gorgeous fabrics and yarns will be supplied, and you’re most welcome to optionally bring your own.
