Shall I Frame my Pictures for Sale?
by Steve PopkinIf you are going to be selling at artshows I would recommend giving the option of both with and without framing. The reason that I say this is because:
1. Framing could add significant profit to your bottomline when selling pieces. A frame that costs you perhaps $25 US could be marked up to $75 when selling expensive pieces. The frame adds perceived value far and above the price you are charging for it. Many people will opt to buy artwork because of the framing. It gives them a chance to visualize how the piece will look when hanging in their home or business. You may even consider having the piece displayed in a couple of different frames to give a better viewpoint to the buyer.
2. Some buyers want their own frame to match their decor and do not want to be forced into paying for a frame that will do them no good. You can't blame them. Giving them the option allows you to make the sale.
So, to sum up...Have several of your pieces framed in different styles of frames. This allows for them to either visualize how nice the piece will look as is and buy it like that or buy the piece unframed that they could later have framed the way they like. Either way you sell a piece of art!
