"Managing Lost and Found Edges in Watercolor"
August 24 and 27, 2025

Join Vlad for an in-depth exploration of his signature approach to watercolor—the Yeliseyev Method—where managing lost and found edges becomes a powerful tool for atmosphere and expression. Manipulating the softness of edges in watercolor painting allows for the attainment of a delicate and mysterious quality. When combined with light effects, this approach can ultimately result in watercolors that are sensitive and engaging, breaking away from a postcard-illustrative and analytical appearance. Skillful manipulation of the edges in a painting requires vision on the part of the painter to enhance the overall impact of the artwork.

"Art Critique with a Focus on Ceramics"
Wednesdays, September 17 - December 10, 2025

A ceramics critique can involve evaluating a piece of pottery for its form, technique, and meaning. It can also include considering how the piece is constructed, what it represents, and how it evokes or represents emotions. Reviewing other people's work, techniques, and artistic intent can help you clarify your thoughts, evaluate your work, and make better pottery. This class will use Zoom to review many ceramic artists weekly through the internet. We will discuss a design element, such as line or texture, and then look at ceramic artists or sculptures representing these design elements. We will look at the artist's intent and presentation of their work. We will explore what it means to be a practicing ceramic artist.

"Mixed Media Explorations: Collage, Combines, and Assemblage Art"
Fridays, October 31 - December 12, 2025

Explore alternative ways of conceptualizing and creating mixed-media art. 2D and 3D techniques have been an essential part of modern art history, as evinced in the poetic artworks of Joseph Cornell, politically charged assemblages of Betye Saar, revealing works of Eileen Agaar, and whimsy of Robert Rauschenberg. Push your art-making process to a new level by combining 2D and 3D art into a contemporary expression of your own. Intrinsically engage awareness while drawing on design elements to reflect a point of view and a moment in time. Each week discover your unique expression while bringing new work into existence.

"Animals in Watercolor"
Mondays, November 3 - December 8, 2025

Dogs, cats, and other animals have been depicted in master drawings and paintings throughout the centuries — as portrait subjects themselves or as a part of landscapes, domestic scenes, still lifes, and other genres. Find inspiration to make animals a meaningful part of your painting practice. Utilize sketches and photo references to explore ways of realistically and expressively depicting domestic or wild animals, to capture facial features, posture/gesture, and textural effects of fur, feathers and whiskers while learning sound visual principles. Content will include examples from historical and contemporary art, engaging homework assignments, and discussions about the role of animals in art. Instruction will focus on drawing and watercolor or gouache painting, but students are welcome to work in other media.
