Join us for this exciting class where instructor Addison Palmer will teach students the fundamentals and techniques needed to create your very own realistic painting of birds of the Lowcountry! Composition, shadow, negative space, color mixing and layering are just some of the skills Addison will cover in this workshop, where students will paint Lowcountry birds from their own reference photographs. This class is designed for all levels of students. Note: Addison will be using heavy acrylics for this workshop! Those using other mediums are welcome to join, however, the processes Addison uses may not be applicable to your medium due to transparency and/or drying times.

Join us for a fun and creative workshop as we paint an adorable pufferfish hovering above a vibrant reef! You'll work on an 11x14 canvas using acrylic paints applied with a variety of techniques. In addition to traditional brushwork, you'll explore using natural sea sponges to create the reef, a pastry bag with heavy-textured acrylic for a raised effect on the pufferfish, and acrylic paint pens for adding final details. All materials are provided, including a pufferfish template to guide your design. No experience necessary—just bring your enthusiasm!

Learn to create lively and realistic animal portraits utilizing watercolor painting techniques. Explore the anatomy and structure of the skull and facial features, as well as the construction and natural rendering of fur and other textures. Emphasis will be placed on expressing the unique character and posture of the animal portrait subject, as students work from their choice of wildlife imagery or photos of household pets. Instruction will address basic drawing and watercolor techniques for creating precise but soft effects – perfect for the distinctive needs for creating animal likenesses.
