"Kids Summer Art Classes: Doodle Birds"

In this imaginative session, budding artists will explore the magic of watercolor by creating vibrant multi-colored blobs using the wet-on-wet technique. With the guidance of Caroline, students will learn to apply masking fluid to craft intricate details like eyes and beaks. "Kids Summer Art Classes: Animals Everywhere | Ages 9 - 12"
June 10 & 17 (1pm - 3pm)
 

Using a lightbox, students will learn to trace the contours of their chosen animal from at least 3 angles, exploring its form and character. After tracing, it's time to bring their creations to life with vibrant watercolors, adding splashes of color to their artwork. Once dry, markers will be used to add intricate details and textures. "Kids Summer Art Classes: Donut Paintings | Ages 9 - 12"

Through step-by-step guidance, students will explore the intricate process of bringing their sweet treat to life on paper. Additionally, they will learn about the world of shading and contrast as they craft a value scale with watercolors. By the end of the class, each student will proudly compose a masterpiece, showcasing their newfound skills and imagination.

"Summer Solstice Plein Air Watercolor Workshop"
June 18-21, 2024
 

Through plein air painting, discover what moves you most and how to make your mark based on the adventure of seeing, guided by a popular instructor, New York/Key West artist Susan Sugar. Each evening begins with a group critique with the goal of becoming comfortable sharing your process with other painters. After the group critique, students disperse to paint on their own while Susan circulates from person to person, offering individual counsel, as needed. The workshop culminates with a final critique and potluck at Sugar’s home/studio Turtle House and an exhibition of student work hosted by The Studios of Key West at a later date.

Join us for an imaginative journey into the world of bugs! Using a lightbox, students will trace the contours of their chosen bug onto heavyweight paper. They'll then mix glue with black acrylic paint to carefully trace the lines, adding depth and detail. Once dry, it's time to bring their bug to life with vibrant watercolors, filling in each section with creativity and color. "Kids Summer Art Classes: Paper Mixed Media Collage | Ages 13 - 18"
July 12, 19, & 26 (1pm - 3pm)
 

Using reference photos provided by the instructor or taken by the students themselves, participants will learn to transfer contour and value outlines onto canvas or wood surfaces. This process, achieved through the chalk method or transfer paper, sets the foundation for their compositions. Students will experiment with a range of materials including glue, modge-podge, hot glue, magazines, books, and watercolor paints. These diverse mediums allow for endless possibilities in creating texture, depth, and visual interest in their collages.
