Risk

Gallery Underground in Arlington, VA seeks entries for a juried art exhibition, May 1-24, 2019. Up to $500 in awards. Juror: Sandy Maudlin. Artists working in all media are invited to submit works depicting or representing risk. These can take the form of either literal depictions of taking risks, or more figurative demonstrations of the artist's personal risk-taking in their subject matter, medium or technique. For this exhibition, artists are encouraged to submit a paragraph explaining how their submitted works represent the theme; these paragraphs will be displayed next to each accepted piece. $35 for up to two works. 2019 Biennale National Juried Exhibition

Art League of Hilton Head invites you to enter the 2019 Biennale National Juried Exhibition, held May 7 - June 1, 2019 at the Art League Gallery inside the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. $5,000 in cash prizes. Unique by Nature Juried Art Competition and Exhibition

McKinney Main Street announces a call to artists for a juried art exhibition, held April 6-27, 2019 at the McKinney Performing Arts Center in McKinney, Texas. One large-scale work will be awarded a $6,000 Purchase Prize and will become part of MPAC's permanent and public art collection. Photographic call for entry "photographic performance 2019"

Do you have a body of work or a concept for an exhibition that is photography or photography based? A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas is looking for compelling solo or cooperative exhibitions to fill its interior salon space. It can be only photographic images, photography combined with mixed media, photography as sculpture, photography based installations or..... This is the third year for "the photographic performance" and we are hoping once again you can show us what it can be. It is important that the body of work has a conceptual narrative, actual or implied. Four exhibition proposals will be selected to be exhibited in the Salon from either May 24 to June 23, June 28 to July 28, August 2 to September 1 or September 6 to September 29, 2019. 2019 Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Prize

A prize of $10,000 is given annually by the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University to support documentary artists, working alone or in teams, who are involved in extended, on-going fieldwork projects that rely on and exploit the interplay of words and images. The winner's work will also be published in the Center for Documentary Studies' digital publications and placed in the Archive of Documentary Arts at the Rubenstein Library at Duke University. Competitive applicants to this prize have a point of view derived from an in-depth understanding of place, history, and the current situation, in concert with a personal relationship to the proposed work. Ultimately, their commitment is to use documentary expression to motivate the thinking and reflection of others. A panel of writers, editors, and documentary artists will judge.
