Whether you have basic or advanced knowledge of photography, this class is for you. Students will learn and understand how professional photographers shoot great panoramas, portraits and action photos. This workshop will include topics ranging from unique photo composition, compositional mistakes, landscape settings, photographing wildlife and metering. The workshop will also include the use of the controls and modes on most DSLR and mirrorless cameras, selecting the right lenses and when to use them, as well as photographer's basic equipment. Students are encouraged to bring their cameras, iPads and iPhones to class; however, cameras are not required. Basic experience is required.

Cell phones and tablets have become the commonly used camera, often more than cameras themselves! In this class, we will discuss some of the advantages and challenges of using these devices for photography. Additionally, we will look at composition and use of light to capture professional pictures, and how to share photos and move them between your iPhone, iPad, and laptop. We will demonstrate and practice, cropping and improving your photos, using the built-in apps on your devices. No experience is necessary. Bring your iPhone and iPad to class to participate in this hands-on demonstration and practice.

Join Jim Halvoresen as he teaches you how to capture the Milky Way! This very unique photography workshop is an outstanding opportunity for photographers to learn the skills for capturing a starlit night! This workshop will begin Friday evening with a class to teach set up for this unique photo shoot. Specifics about the offsite, early morning photo shoot will be discussed during the evening session. Then we will meet Jim at the designated location for an incredible experience of capturing the Milky Way with your lens! Sunday afternoon learn how to complete the final touches so you finish with incredible photos. In the event of poor weather, the early morning session may be pushed to Sunday morning with a follow up class on Monday.

If you are using a digital camera for taking photographs in the “auto mode,” wondering what all the other dials and selections are for and how to use them, this class is for you. Take your photographic skills to the next level! You will learn the use of the shutter speed, aperture settings, and what ISO is all about, and how they work together to produce a great photo. What the camera does when you select landscape, sports, night, portrait and A, P or S choices will be reviewed, and how to use them effectively. If you have a DSLR or mirrorless camera, please bring it to class along with your lenses but cameras are not necessary to participate.
