"Life Model Drawing"
January 25, 2026

Life Drawing, also known as Figure Drawing, is the practice of drawing in order to study the human figure. If you look at historic artwork, you'll find many nude drawings and paintings. These are considered life drawings. Many artists perceive figure drawing as an endless effort with limitless possibility for improvement, learning, and diversity. The range of detail in a life drawing can vary immensely. They can range from highly detailed and anatomically proportional drawings to loose and expressive sketches to gesture drawings, which show the simple form, action and pose. Some popular mediums used during life drawings are charcoal, graphite, pen, ink and pastels. For the longer poses, some may use painting mediums like acrylics or oil.

In his lifetime Rembrandt experienced both great success and devastating failures. This talk will consider the breath of Rembrandt’s work from brash early pictures to contemplative late ones. We’ll also explore the evolution of his painting technique which has been described as a kind of alchemy. As such, we will focus on value and color temperature relationships above all else. While good drawing is paramount to our effort—since nothing spoils a painting faster than drawing errors—our time is better spent on the more difficult and crucial concepts of value and color temperature. Elements such as appropriate edges, surface texture, composition, and others will also be discussed as needed. We will be painting in oil.

Collage most often suggests an idea as it helps develop a narrative, but when combined with CWM/oil paint, it allows for much experimentation through transparencies, opacity and texture. Presentations, art theory discussions and pin-up critique will allow for everyone to understand and develop their design narratives. Participants learn to create different layered abstractions and dynamic works by combining various elements and techniques.

"3-Day Cold Wax/Oil Workshop - Geometry & Hidden Meanings"
July 10-12, 2026

Abstract geometric art is about hidden meanings, analogies, protests and deliberate simplification to prove that everything complicated is simple. We will discuss how, by looking inwardly, we can create personal narratives. Geometry plays a significant role in art and design, often carrying symbolic interpretations beyond its visual form. Geometric shapes and patterns are not just aesthetic elements but can also evoke specific emotions.

"3-Day Cold Wax/Oil Workshop - Monochrome Drawing & Painting"
August 14-16, 2026

Monochrome painting is art composed in a single color. It utilizes various shades or tints, so the images become incredibly evocative and most importantly what you lose in not using color you’ll gain in quality of composition and contrast. Color is no longer a distraction. The focus is on the overall composition. Also mark-making is improved by enabling the discovery of different forms and shapes with subtle tones. Painting with a single color can improve your art because it makes you concentrate on elements such as line, value, lighting and form.
