Just like telling a story in the words of a poem, you can also tell a story in thread and fabric. Unlike a canvas of threads, narrative stitching - uses very simple line. Narrative stitching is imperfect and beautiful showing the hand of the maker. Listen to the process of journaling with thread, talk about the meditative process of daily stitch practice. Learn simple stitches such as the running stitch and the back stitch. Learn simple techniques of "drawing" with thread. See examples of Journal stitches used on cotton napkins, pillows and eatables. Go home with an 8x8 block which is the beginning of your stitch journey. Bring your own scissors, and any embroidery threads you own. Everything else will be provided.

Join us for this exciting two-part workshop! During Session I, students will learn the basics of coiling a pine needle basket, including how to start a basket around a cabochon center, how to weave so your stitches line up on both sides of the basket, and how to change thread. Students will have the opportunity to take their beginning basket home and continue working on it to make a larger basket or just return with the started basket the following week to finish it.
