Experience an unforgettable celebration of Día de Muertos in magical, traditional Oaxaca, with stunningly decorated altars, street parades with vibrant music, costumed revelers, all-night vigils in local cemeteries, marigold flowers, copal incense, pan de Muertos, and dazzling murals throughout the city. We will spend our days watercolor painting imagery and symbolic representations of our loved ones, assemble a beautiful group altar, and construct and decorate a sand tapestry. We'll go to a traditional market to collect altar decorations and offerings, make visits to two cemeteries where Oaxaqueños lovingly decorate the graves of their ancestors and bring offerings to share with their spirits. Additional field trips include master weaving family, alebrije (carved wooden objects) artisans, and women’s red clay collective.
