"Painting the Historic Grandeur of Havana, Cuba in Watercolor (Online)"
August 25 & 27, 2020

In this workshop you’ll learn how to create the textures of the ornate scrollwork and distressed limestone walls and contrast that with the softness of the laundry hanging across the balcony. The change of shape in the two sheets hanging behind the clothes adds motion to an otherwise languid, almost “steamy” scene. We want to capture that mood. We will use a limited palette of colors to create a softly flowing pattern of clothing against the lacy scroll work of the windows and balcony. Personal attention is a very important part of this interactive class. We will paint together and share our work though the camera. It’s almost as good as being together in person! Max 16 participants.

"Bold & Dynamic Watercolor: Inspired by Monet’s Waterlilies at Giverny (Online)"
August 26-28, 2020

In this workshop you will paint a waterlily, which in many ancient cultures around the world symbolizes hope, rebirth, wellness, and peace. I will show you my approach to designing a painting for a more dynamic composition. I will also cover the painting techniques unique to my process; bold color focusing on water to pigment ratio, value structure, and color temperature. All are important to make images look three-dimensional. Alongside our waterlily journey, we will also explore the work and technique of Claude Monet and his time painting flowers at Giverny. Since the class is interactive, you will be able to ask questions, show your work through your camera to get personal feedback and see your fellow artists’ work too.
