"Mindful Art-Making in Challenging Times"
Thursdays, January 27 - February 24, 2022

During the pandemic, you may have experienced anxiety and sadness due to being sick, having lost a loved one, or from the non-stop news coverage of daily death tolls, political unrest, and social upheaval. You are not alone. Learn to work through your feelings and the anxiety we are all carrying through art-making. Cultivating mindfulness, or wakefulness, allows you to be fully present and aware of your actions, without feeling distracted and overwhelmed by other thoughts or outside influences. Art-making is a natural way of practicing mindfulness, and has been shown not only to reduce stress and improve communication skills, but also benefits those suffering from memory loss, depression, or PTSD. Discover how creativity can enrich your daily life under the guidance of Dona Duncan, registered art therapist and practicing artist, in this live Zoom class.

"The Illustrated Letter"
Saturdays, February 19 - March 5, 2022

Artists and authors have been illustrating their correspondence for centuries. Picasso, Victor Hugo, Gaugin, Corot and Van Gogh all combined words and pictures when writing to friends—just to name a few. Of course, these artists and authors didn’t have access to email or texts (thank goodness!) And although we do, I think it might be time for a “Slow Letter” movement, much like Slow Food, where we take the time and make the effort to communicate in a more creative, personal way. Join me as we explore this old idea and make it work for us in today’s high-tech world, with words and pictures of our own. All skill levels welcome!

"Design & the Power of Imagination"
ongoing

As an instructor, it is my sincere desire to help guide aspiring painters to find better ways to trust, develop, and listen to their artistic voice. This is not done by providing answers so much as in helping artists to ask the right questions. When we begin to grasp this and ask ourselves these fundamental questions, we are well on our way to making significant strides. The curriculum presents a comprehensive and sequential education of watercolor techniques while inspiring the development of your own unique style. The program has rolling admission; you can join anytime and start from the beginning of the curriculum. Each month you will progress through a new 4-8 hour video series while honing your style & technique.
