Sarah will walk the class through how to throw on the wheel step by step. If you prefer to hand build, you are welcome to bring your own idea to create. After Sarah gets the class through the first piece on the wheel, she will guide those who are hand building. At the end of the lesson, if you made more than one piece, you will choose your favorite 1 piece and select 1 glaze color. The teacher will finish the pottery by dipping it in the selected glaze and it will be ready in 2-4 weeks. Or you can have it shipped (Small boxes are $15).

In this class you will handbuild the bowl the first day with slab or coils. We will use molds to get perfectly shaped bowls then paint slip which will harden by the second class to carve through using a sgraffito effect to create the design. The design is easy to follow along with for beginners by sketching out lines before carving into the surface. Or students can be creative by bringing their own drawings or ideas to carve into the surface of their bowl. The bowl will be bisque fired and glazed in a clear glaze by the teacher. Ready for pick up in 2-3 weeks, or you can have it shipped. Small boxes are $15.

In this fun and creative pottery workshop, you’ll piece together textured clay slabs to design a one-of-a-kind nameplate or house number plaque! Using hand-building techniques, you’ll cut and layer different clay pieces, just like assembling a quilt, to create a beautifully unique sign. Your letters, numbers, or symbols will be “appliquéd” on using thin slabs, giving your design depth and personality. Experiment with stamps, rollers, carving, and underglaze to make your textures pop! After firing and glazing, your durable, weatherproof ceramic plaque will be ready to add a touch of handmade charm to your home. Whether you go for bold and modern, rustic and cozy, or playful and whimsical, this workshop is the perfect way to stitch together creativity and clay!

Bohls’ work is deeply rooted in a study of historical vessels. She translates these forms first by doing a series of drawings and then building forms using the coil and pinch method of handbuilding. In this workshop, Margaret will share images of a variety of historical pottery forms. She will also give a brief demonstration of her drawing techniques - used to create a visual framework for her coil-build objects and to translate historical form language into contemporary pottery forms. Demonstrations will include the building of a variety of utilitarian forms, with an emphasis on the creation of inventive lids, spouts, handles and other attachments. Student will have the opportunity to build a small vessel during the workshop.
