"Understanding Color-The Power of a Limited Palette"
May 11-14, 2020

There are certain irrefutable truisms in painting, one is the fewer colors used, the stronger and more harmonious the statement. Working from a “standard” palette of 12-14 colors, students will calculate progressive sequences on the color wheel to create complimentary schemes, simple triads, and dynamic triads of color, referred to as harmonic chords, comprised of three to six colors, and explore how to select the best color set to serve our concept. Each new piece will require an entirely new working palette. The goal of this workshop is to give the artist a reliable foundation for making color decisions, in other words to demystify color harmony in painting and empower them with a deeper understanding of an important principle.

We'll explore color mixing, palette building, creative prompts, doodling, paint application and collage. Learn to take risks and work out ideas before starting on a big canvas. Most importantly, you'll learn to love the process in addition to the end result.

"Impression and Design Plein Air Workshop"
August 25-27, 2020

We will inevitably be chasing the light and seeing beyond what is there, always looking for more, to capture the sensation of the place. It all comes down to design and interpretation. Utilizing and building on what nature gives us but not being a slave to it. We will be working to simplify our shapes, really push to explore our use of temperatures and color along with controlling our values as well as our edges. Composition and design underlie all of these along with our drawing which will be our foundation. We will look to make our paintings fresh, vibrant, and full of light and color. Not being a slave to what is there but knowing how to interpret it.

"Painting Forest Interiors en Plein Air"
September 21-22, 2020

For the artist, the forest is a peaceful retreat of dancing shadow. In this two-day workshop, venture into the forest with your easel and capture the play of light and shadow during the early autumn color change. Learn how to see the forest as broad areas of value and color opposed to overwhelmingly complex information with Kyle’s guidance. Kyle presents a process to paint the large masses and shapes first, which acts as a foundation to place your dappled light onto. Discuss modern color theory, including the strengths and limitations of modern organic pigments, mineral pigments, and earth pigments. Plenty of time is dedicated to hands-on practice with Kyle available for individualized instruction. Open to oil and acrylic painters.

"Painting in France: Oil Painting Workshop"
August 28 - September 4, 2021

Join me to follow in the footsteps of master painters Monet, Pisarro, Renoir, Gaugin, Picasso, Cassatt and more. Each day we’ll enjoy artistic and cultural experiences, including the unique opportunity to paint in Monet’s Garden with no crowds. My plein air workshops are extremely comprehensive and have been described as ‘art school in a week’. I’ll de-mystify the painting process by teaching straightforward, easy to understand steps. Using tried and true principles as a jumping off point will allow you to loosen up and find your own voice. You’ll leave this class with the skills needed to take your work to the next level…both outdoors and in the studio. There will be demos, discussions, handouts, lots of painting time and individual attention.

"Online Art Mentoring-Customized Drawing, Painting and Mural Painting"
Anytime

The Online Art Mentorship is a long distance learning from the comfort of your home at the time that most suits your needs. You will be able to practice drawing, painting and/or mural painting at your own pace, getting systematic instructions and feedbacks on the art project you are working on. Note that, because of the nature of the one-to-one mentoring, each student will be taken great care and time in personalised critiques and lessons. This is a most affordable and time flexible learning practice which requires self-discipline and commitment. The students will need to be open to work under guidance and critique to be able to reach goals and experience art technique and creativity improvement.
