Color is perhaps the most misunderstood and confusing element of painting for people. This workshop will focus on color’s theoretical underpinnings —how it works and why it works— and how to apply these principles when faced with the reality of painting with artist's pigments. Participants will work to develop their own vocabulary of color through making color studies and scales, and paint from a still life to practice seeing, relating and mixing colors. This workshop is designed for beginning through intermediate painters who are looking to gain a greater understanding of color and the color mixing process. Participants may choose to work in oil or acrylic.

Lean into the fear of letting go of expectations and allow your painting to evolve based on pure emotion. Embrace what you do and never question anything about it.
There are no analyses, judgments, or do-overs, in intuitive painting. There is no discipline or thought necessary. It is your gut, heart, and soul talking, not your brain.
Students will learn to work in acrylic layers across a large canvas as Donna shares tips for building a stronger working knowledge of color-blending transitional layers while experimenting with tools, textures, and shapes. Join Arnhild Kart for this acrylic painting course and learn techniques that will lead you to more experimental work in landscape paintings and cityscapes. The instructor supports you in taking your painting process beyond reality, surrendering more and more to the painterly process and the expression of colour. With a broad brush or palette knife, mood and geometry, as well as light and shadow are captured. Here the art of omission is called for in order to direct the view to the essential. We will work with acrylic colours as well as with ink, charcoal, pastels or oil crayons - offering great opportunities for experimentation.

Expressionistic Painting was the historic revolution of German art movement in the late 1970s and the 80s, which was one of the most important streams of the abstract figurative painting in the world. In this workshop you will learn figurative painting in an abstract style. The figure here means either the human or animal or imaginative figurations, whatever you like. It is free from your own idea and will be shaped from your insight feeling. And which abstraction of the figuration you prefer to paint – if you generate figurative form by drawing with lines, colors or by sketching with color stains of abstraction, could be individual and personal decided for your best choice.
