"Resurrect Your ‘Closet Paintings’"
April 28-29, 2020

We all have them, those paintings that you slaved over but they’re just not quite right. This workshop is custom made for you to bring those paintings in and finally finish them. No one likes to show others their mistakes but this workshop will focus on these fundamentals – composition, values, balance, perspective and color to make your almost-there paintings glow. No judgment or criticism. Just a lot of fun and productive, collaborative painting to clean out your stack of unfinished work! Any subject matter is welcome. Please bring your original reference material (photos) with the paintings. Oil paint is preferred in this workshop but acrylic is welcome, too. We will be painting wet into wet.

"The Texture Guidebook"
August 1, 2020

Over the past two decades of writing art technique books, I have found that many artists stick with what they know works. In order to grow and experience more adventure in painting even advanced painters need to push themselves to discover new techniques. Learning a lot of acrylic texture techniques in one day can be a challenge, but when you learn the techniques by creating a book you will have an instant referral at your fingertips. Another win is that there is no pressure to make a finished composition. It is fun to layer some pastes and gels, add collage or stencil, fuse some pieces together and learn how to alter the surface so you can draw or write onto your pages.

"Double Delight"
August 2, 2020

Expand your perceptions by adding two paintings on top of each other. This class will result in some amazing art that you create using acrylic on panel and then add another transparent painting on Plexiglas on top. You will connect the two with fasteners that will also work as a stand-off for hanging the art. Imagine that the clouds are really creating shadows as the light passes through the first layer. The water shimmers behind the tress in the foreground and the abstract textures are multidimensional. You will learn about some unusual materials that can spark new ideas for future projects. This is a fascinating way to work with composition and color mixing.
