Adding the You Factor to Paintings
March 27-29, 2017 (9:30 - 4:30) — The emphasis of this lively workshop zeroing in on the most important factor of all in your work – You! You will learn how to create and rely on a personal rather than a rule-based approach. Each day's lesson will focus on an individual aspect for getting there: seeing and personalizing shapes, abstract understructures, non-representational value patterns, creative color schemes, and more. Donna will also discuss the advantages of using a medium that allows for spontaneity, improvisation, correction, and revision. She will be using watercolor and white gouache in her demonstrations, but students are free to work in any media. Visit website

Discover a New Way of Seeing Color
August 21-25, 2017 (9am-4:30pm) — We'll start out the first two days doing still life study out of doors which will prepare us to tackle the landscape. Next two days we'll be on location painting the landscape. I'll be teaching the structure of the landscape - what is important to include as well as what to leave out. On the last day we'll do color studies of the figure (in the Hensche/Hawthorne "mudhead" tradition). We'll focus on the development of strong starts, and expressing the big masses, light key and aerial perspective with color. I'll be doing demos throughout the workshop. Each day you'll do a color study before lunch, followed by one or two color studies in the afternoon. Visit website
