Through demonstrations, examples and individual attention, this 5-day workshop will enhance each student’s ability to develop and execute paintings that will bring animals to ‘life.’ Participants will leave with a better awareness and understanding of painting in general, along with a deeper appreciation of ways to breathe spirit and personality into the characters that populate their paintings. Bill will address keys to both artistic and technical growth that will apply to all facets of your work, while bringing greater joy to the process, and improving the result.

"Putting the Horse in Action!"
April 16-20, 2018

Students will be given the tools to sculpt the horse with greater strength. Topics will include: proper proportion and how to achieve it, how to express the fleshy and bony parts of the horse; the way the rhythms of the horse’s body are made and how to keep them throughout the piece. Students will look at how the horse moves and expresses himself. Special attention will be paid to composition and how to make the piece come to life. Students will build on the fundamentals of mass, texture, light and design. The ultimate goal is to give students the tools to identify their own sense of design so they can move toward making unique statements in sculpture.

"Painting Figures and Animals from a Photo Reference"
May 3-4, 2018

This 2-day workshop will concentrate on painting animals on Day 1 and human figures on Day 2 as well as the application of paint with correct values, leaving lost and found edges for interest and movement, and integrating the foreground with the background to make a cohesive painting. Participants will learn to leverage their contour drawing as a guide (not a border) as the basis for building form with the use of glazes and washes. This is an excellent workshop for gaining confidence in painting both animal and human forms, upgrading ones painting ability, and learning to be more analytical of your own and other’s paintings.
