June 20, 2026

The practice of Kintsugi - repairing broken vessels by sealing the cracks, then painting them gold - is a remarkable art. It's beautiful to think of this practice as a metaphor for your life, to see the broken, difficult, or painful parts of you as radiating light, gold and beauty. Kintsugi teaches you that your broken places make you stronger and better than ever before. When you think you are broken, you can pick up the pieces, put them back together, and learn to embrace the cracks. No experience is needed. Each attendee will leave with a beautiful Kintsugi bowl.

"Beginning Drawing and Continuing Drawing"
Wednesdays, June 24 - August 12, 2026

If you want to draw things that look “real”— join us for this class! Creating accurate drawings is a skill set that can be learned, step by step, like any other skill. For absolute beginners, we’ll begin at the beginning. We’ll do simple exercises to start sharpening your ability to see critically. You’ll look for shapes, angles, and distances. Then we’ll look at what helps define an object in space, and how to use shading to create all the effects you want, from shiny metal to soft fur, from see-through glass to a human hand. By the end of six weeks, you’ll be able to produce a good likeness of a simple object. Come ready to have fun and gain confidence!

"One-Day Advanced Painting Workshop"
July 25, 2026

Before a painting deserves a large canvas, it must survive the study. In this intensive one-day workshop, professional artist Vlad Duchev guides serious painters through the disciplined process that separates hesitation from mastery: structured, intentional studies. In today’s art culture, artists are often encouraged to “just paint.” But strong paintings are not accidents. They are built. A study is not a warm-up. It is not a quick sketch. It is a focused investigation. When you isolate one problem at a time — value, composition, temperature, edge, brushwork — clarity replaces guesswork. Confidence replaces correction. Authority replaces uncertainty.

"All The Color in White"
November 19-22, 2026

Working from still-life we will develop a vocabulary for clearer color thinking, and skills in seeing and using the subtle color changes in white. Color is a perceptual event: a sensation, not a theory. White, as the brightest and highest value, is the master of all the other colors. How does a painter become a colorist? It is not about using bright colors but about handling nuances and seeing color relationships, especially in the use of whites. Those subtle color changes require heightened sensitivity to all aspects of color; value, harmony and complementary, along with careful observation and response, and understanding how color and light function in both human vision and in paint.

"Fabric as a Vehicle for Gesture"
December 3-6, 2026

Because drapery captures gravity, weight and movement, it does a great deal of the work in making a convincing dynamic composition. Drapery can be manipulated and altered in ways that bodies can never be and yet define the forms of the body underneath. As it covers it also reveals. Fabric retains the gesture of movement, giving life to static forms. Changes of color on each turning plane are subtle, beautiful, and completely dependent on fabric texture. This gives tactile specificity for the sense of touch. Fabric suggests content, drama. Working from visual perception and studying light relationships we will use both still life and figure to simplify and extract the essentials of form and gesture for a unified and dramatic whole.

"Exploring Novel Surfaces for Colored Pencil"
May 1-2, 2027

Colored pencil is the ideal medium for creating stunning art, all in a portable, non-toxic, neat form. Kristy is the author of two colored pencil techniques books and is featured in four instructional films. She is a positive, supportive teacher who welcomes students with all levels of experience. With an emphasis on floral and landscape art with waxy (non-watercolor) pencils, students will create paintings (as these works are aptly called) on both white and colored surfaces, from velvety to sanded. The effects can range from soft and delicate to densely pigmented. Kristy offers demonstrations, personal attention, and a wealth of information. Enjoy free materials, such as papers, boards, blenders, and pencils. Welcome to a weekend of colored pencil inspiration!

"Portrait in Watercolor"
May 4-9, 2027

Join renowned watercolor artist Jeannie Vodden in the magical art world of Santa Fe. Students will enjoy an in-studio experience each day painting a portrait of their choice, or following along as Jeannie demonstrates… and then will explore a wonderful area of Santa Fe each afternoon. Jeannie’s watercolors are marked by the use of a limited palette of staining transparent primary colors. She works from large gentle washes of color to more specific detail (large to small/general to specific, a technique known as indirect painting). Her use of glazing layer over layer gives a translucent lifelike feeling to her paintings, while her interest in luminescence guides her choice of subject matter and the quality of light in her work.

"Gouache Painting Workshop in Santa Fe"
May 9-14, 2027

Join us for 4 full days of sketching in beautiful Santa Fe! Sarah’s focus is primarily in travel sketching and plein air painting… her sketchbooks tell the story of her wanderlust. Painting and sketching on location is an incredible way to connect with the culture of a place, its architecture, even the food and music! Sarah will be demonstrating in gouache, though you could also use acrylic. Similar techniques apply to acrylics as gouache because it is opaque, so you are welcome to work in either medium. We will work in sketchbooks mostly. But if you prefer larger paper, that’s fine too. Whether you love watercolor, gouache or ink, the principle of travel sketching remains the same: joyful creation!
