If you have noticed that water is not always blue and that there are reflections of a different color--but did not know how to mix the color that you are seeing—this demo is for you. Alex will demonstrate to show what colors work together and how to use your brush to get the transparent effects of water that is not always blue and is often greenish or brownish. Alex will paint in watercolor, but the color mixing is common for all paint media. Feel free to paint along—or just watch.

Dogs, cats, and other animals have been depicted in master drawings and paintings throughout the centuries — as portrait subjects themselves or as a part of landscapes, domestic scenes, still lifes, and other genres. Find inspiration to make animals a meaningful part of your painting practice. Utilize sketches and photo references to explore ways of realistically and expressively depicting domestic or wild animals, to capture facial features, posture/gesture, and textural effects of fur, feathers and whiskers while learning sound visual principles. Content will include examples from historical and contemporary art, engaging homework assignments, and discussions about the role of animals in art. Instruction will focus on drawing and watercolor or gouache painting, but students are welcome to work in other media.

No painting or drawing skills are needed. Move your paint as the music tells you...
on a canvas or in your sketchbook. I create a one-hour playlist of the different subjects each week. You may paint one painting or 10 or as much as you want. No rules. You may interpret the music as figurative or abstract, anything goes!
The camera of your device will be pointed to the working area, so we can also see the progress, and be inspired. After the session, we look at each other's artwork and talk about the process.
