"A Conversation with The Landscape, a Pastel Workshop"
May 1-3, 2024

Really getting to know a landscape, instead of just identifying elements of it, makes us better, more sensitive landscape painters. Each landscape has a personality and something to say. It’s when we begin to really understand why a landscape draws us in and captures our imagination that we become better able to advance from simply copying the obvious aspects of the landscape to incorporating mood and atmosphere and those hard-to-define qualities that take a landscape painting from average to extraordinary. The studio portion of this workshop will focus on learning ways to create paintings that have their own voice, and the optional plein air day will focus on gathering thoughts and information, along with creating small paintings for future reference material.

If these difficulties sound familiar, I'm excited to show you how to conquer these challenges and many more in this information-packed workshop. May 16, 2024

Stepping outside and painting the landscape can be exhilarating, but it can also feel overwhelming! In this plein air workshop, I will share the powerful principles you need to break down a scene into manageable chunks, establish your center of interest or "focal point" and create a dynamic, engaging composition. I'll begin the workshop with a demonstration of key plein air principles. In the afternoon, you'll be able to paint the landscape, and I will offer my thoughts and assistance. Please join me for this fun, informative plein air workshop in the great outdoors.
