In this 1-Day workshop, Karen will lead students through her process of drawing the portrait from the initial measurements to the final stages of refining. Using a photo reference, she will begin with teaching strategies to accurately draw the head, place the features and indicate the major light and shadow shapes. Karen will demonstrate how to define the shadow and light regions which give the illusion of form. She will show how she compresses values for a strong design and how she makes corrections throughout, achieving an unmistakable likeness of her subject. We've all done it - scribbled mindlessly on scraps of paper, or on the edges of workbooks or on napkins at a restaurant. So what's a doodle or zentangle, and why are they important? This workshop will show you how to effectively doodle, noodle & zentangle! Students finish the day with a piece of abstract art. This workshop came about from Joan's own personal experience as a stalled artist. She was forced to put off working on her art for years due to responsibilities in the "real" world. However, once awarded the chance to start working on her art again, she was terrified and stuck. Doodling opened the door and Joan came pouring out. Students should bring $20 for materials.
