This workshop is ideal for artists of all levels looking to strengthen their portraits through anatomical insight, technical understanding, and guided practice. In this workshop, artist and anatomy educator Rachel will guide participants through the underlying bony and muscular structures that shape the human face, and how to use this knowledge to create successful portraits. By combining her cadaveric dissecting experience with her background in figure drawing, Rachel offers a rare, anatomy-first approach to portraiture that brings clarity and structure to the complexity of the head and facial features.

April 22 & 29, 2026 from 1-4pm
Using a live model throughout the workshop, participants will explore multiple facets of artistic anatomy. The class will start with the major masses of the body and how they relate to essential figure drawing concepts such as opposition, tilt, balance, and proportion. Artists will then learn the key bony landmarks and muscle structures relevant to figure drawing and will be guided in rendering the visible reference points that inform structure and gesture. Artists will have the opportunity to apply their anatomical knowledge through gestural and long pose figure drawing, individualized feedback, and live demonstrations from Rachel.
