"Key West by Moonlight"
March 6-7, 2024

Students learn to use metallic paints on black canvas in order to depict familiar local scenes, as they appear transformed by moonlight. The paintings may also contain touches of blacklight colors, which glow when exposed to that type of lighting. Priscilla Coote is a lifelong fine art painter who is driven to search for the real. She works with a variety of mediums, from oil to watercolor to gouache and her subjects vary from sultry tropics to wild Maine coastline, a house, a tree, a rockā€”as long as it speaks with its own voice.

"Batik: Painting with Wax and Dye on Fabric"
April 11-12, 2024

Learn contemporary approaches to an ancient fiber and dye art that originated on the island of Java, Indonesia. Come with 3 pencil drawings on white cotton fabric and leave with hand dyed works of art. Wendy Tatter has lived in the U.S., West Indies, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Brasil. She was introduced to the art of batik in Mexico while attending Instituto Allende. Fascinated by the technique, she has developed a style all her own. Her work often reflects the people and places from her travels and has been exhibited and collected worldwide. Tatter is the recipient of the Dr. Gail Pflaster ROWITA (Recognizing Outstanding Women in the Arts) lifetime achievement award for women who have made significant contributions to the arts.
